Create a Vision Statement for Your M2DMM

Create a Vision Statement for Your M2DMM

It is important to know what you want the end result to look like before starting your M2DMM. Creating a vision statement helps keep the end in mind and helps keep you on task. There are an endless number of ministry ideas you could pursue. It is helpful to have a vision statement to evaluate your work and filter out anything that is not lending itself to the end vision.

Ask God to give you His vision for your people groups. If you have teammates, gather with them. It can be as short as “Igniting a Disciple Making Movement among the [unreached people group].”

Once you have your vision, you can work backward to see what steps are needed to work toward your vision. This is also known as the critical path.

An example of this is in Romans 10:13-15 “‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?”

In this passage, you could say Paul’s vision is that “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Working backward, the cirital path or steps needed to fulfill the vision are:

  1. Vision: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord is saved
  2. Call upon the Lord
  3. Believe in Jesus
  4. Hear the Gospel
  5. Preach or share the Gospel
  6. Sent someone to preach or share the Gospel

In order to see your vision, work backwards to see what steps need to happen. If your vision is to ignite a Disciple Making Movement among [inserts people group here], an example of a critical path is:

  1. Vision: Ignite a DMM
  2. Church multiplies other churches
  3. Group becomes a church
  4. Seeker engages group in discovering, sharing, and obeying God’s Word
  5. Seeker responds by sharing God’s Word with others and starts a group
  6. Seeker and disciple maker continue to meet
  7. First meeting takes place between seeker and disciple maker
  8. Disciple maker establishes contact with seeker
  9. Seeker is ready to meet with a disciple maker face-to-face
  10. Seeker begins dialogue with media ministry
  11. Seeker is exposed to social media

Now, make your own vision and critical path.
