Audio Privacy Techniques
Purpose
Hearing testimonies, wisdom, and encouragement from people who know Jesus can be life changing. Sadly, in closed countries, it can be dangerous for Christians to share their voices online. This means many people will never hear the good news these Christians have to share. As AI advances, however, this is becoming less of an obstacle. Eleven Labs uses AI to create and manipulate audio. With this tool, Christians in unreached countries can be more free to share their voices online.
Set Up
- Go to elevenlabs.io
- Create an account
- If you want to test it first, you can proceed with the free account, but it is a little lower quality than the paid version
- You will need to use a paid account for commercial licensing
- For most people, the “Starter” or “Creator” plan is probably best
Voice Changer
The voice changer makes a person’s voice sound like a completely different person, while maintaining tone, pace, accent, etc.
- On the left sidebar, click the “Voice Changer” option next to the icon of a person speaking
- On the right, click on the tab labeled “Voice” and select a voice
- You can search for a voice using words like “Male”, “Old”, or “Low” or just scroll through the options listed
- It is usually best to use a male voice for a recording done by a male and a female voice for a recording done by a female
- This should work for many languages and dialects, but the less common a language or dialect is, the more likely it is that the AI will make mistakes or fail to create anything coherent
- Once you have selected a voice, upload or record your audio
- If you are not quite satisfied, try a different voice or adjust some of the settings on the right, then click “Regenerate Speech”
- Each time you click “Regenerate Speech”, your previous audio will move to the “History” tab on the right
- Click the “Download” icon to save your audio
Text to Speech
If you would rather do text to speech, select the “Text to Speech” option next to the icon of the letter “a”, located above the “Voice Changer” option. Generally, the voice changer is better because the speaker can choose their tone, speed, etc., but text to speech may be more desirable in some specific applications.
